Volunteers Needed for International Basketball Championships

Eugene, Ore. - Volunteers are still needed to help with the 2010 FIMBA Pan-American Masters Basketball Championships coming to the Eugene and Springfield area July 2 - 10. Upwards of 600 men's and women's masters-level athletes, from 11 countries, will be competing in the event.

Players will be coming from throughout the U.S., South America and Central America. Many of the athletes are former collegiate or professional players. A biennial event, this will be the 6th Pan-American Championships and the first time it will be held in the U.S.

Teams will also participate in the Parade of Nations during opening ceremonies on Saturday, July 3 in downtown Eugene, as well as an evening reception and celebration on Tuesday, July 6 in Springfield.

Volunteers are needed to help with a variety of tasks, including greeting athletes, providing information and assisting with registration. There is a special need for Spanish and Portuguese interpreters. Volunteers will receive free championship T-shirts and tickets to the games.

For more information about volunteering or the championships, go to www.maxibasketballeugene2010.com or contact Kayla Krempley at Travel Lane County at (541) 743-8765 or Kayla@TravelLaneCounty.org.
