Statewide Travel Group Plans Tours of Cottage Grove Attractions
Eugene, Ore. - Cottage Grove area attractions and businesses will get a special visit from dozens of travel and hospitality professionals from around the state this month.
Members of the Oregon Tour & Travel Alliance (OTTA), made up of hotel, attraction and tour operators, as well as destination marketing professionals throughout Oregon, will hold their next gathering January 19-20 at the Village Green Resort.
While the group is in town networking and learning about trends and tips to succeed in the group travel market, they'll also be touring a number of places in and around the southern Willamette Valley, bringing exposure to local wineries, covered bridges and other points of interest.
"This will be a great opportunity to showcase this part of the county to travel professionals who make a living promoting attractions around the state," says Meg Trendler, Travel Lane County's Tourism Sales Manager, who works with the group travel, or ‘packaged travel' market. "Cottage Grove has some wonderful gems that I think this group will find appealing and worth sharing with future travelers they come in contact with."
In partnership with Travel Lane County, the City of Cottage Grove, Cottage Grove Chamber of Commerce and the Village Green Resort's General Manager Melinda Thompson, organized a variety of activities for delegates.
Thursday evening activities include stops at the newly restored Chambers Covered Railroad Bridge, Cottage Theater, Cottage Grove Museum, In Color Gallery & Design, Axe and Fiddle, Kalapuya Books and the Bohemia Gold Mining Museum, in partnership with the Cottage Grove Historical Society. Each stop will also feature tastings by local wineries including Saginaw Vineyard, King Estate, Iris Vineyards and Chateau Lorane Winery.
Friday morning the group will tour the Mosby Creek, Currin and Dorena covered bridges, which will be interpreted by a step-on guide dressed in an historic period costume. The group will also take in sites of Middlefield Golf Course, Row River Trail and four area parks.
Meanwhile, registration for the event is still open and available to the public. For more information, go to the Oregon Tour & Travel Alliance website. For a schedule of delegate activities, contact Travel Lane County at (541) 743-8762.
