Job Opening - Tourism Public Relations Manager
Purpose of Position
To ensure a successful public relations program promoting the Eugene, Cascades & Coast region as a visitor destination by working with non-local national and international media.
Position Requirements
Degree in journalism, business marketing or hospitality and/or 3+ years of successful public relations experience
- Forward thinking and innovative
- Fluent in social media/new media
- Strong writing skills with an emphasis on writing Web content
- Telephone and public speaking skills
- Must be able to respond to job demands outside of the normal 8-5 work day
- Good organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects
- Ability to represent Lane County and Travel Lane County member products to clients
- Strong computer skills (MS Office Suite, In Design, digital photo and video editing) and comfort on the Internet
- Working knowledge of consumer/trade show functions and operations helpful
- Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 40 pounds
Responsibilities
Content Strategy
- Manage content strategy across all platforms (TravelLaneCounty.org, e-newsletter, Facebook, etc.)
- Write and distribute Eugene, Cascades & Coast consumer e-newsletters on a regular basis
- Contribute to writing web content on TravelLaneCounty.org
- Contribute to writing marketing collateral materials (brochures, guides, ad copy, etc.)
- Provide research, editorial, editing and image support to Travel Lane County staff, partners and members
- Provide content for partners such as Travel Oregon, Willamette Valley Visitors Association, Oregon Coast Visitors Association, etc. for publications, websites and marketing tools as needed
Social Media
- Manage social media program on a daily basis (customer service, community management, marketing)
- Coordinate social media program with marketing strategy
- Stay up-to-date on new media trends and how they apply to tourism marketing
Media Relations
- Regular contact with targeted media
- Monitor targeted media editorial calendars
- Respond to media requests for story ideas and fact checking
- Coordinate press/research tours for visiting media
- Write and distribute regular Tourism Updates for media contacts
- Monitor Travel Oregon and regional association editorial calendars, and respond to callouts for story ideas and fact checking support
- Support the Willamette Valley Visitors Association partnership
Reporting
- Monthly reporting of media relations efforts
- Monthly reporting of conversions through inbound marketing content platforms
Other Duties as Assigned
This position reports to the Vice President of Tourism Marketing. It is exempt from overtime requirements and may require evening and/or weekend work.
