Eugene, Cascades & Coast Photo Contest Categories & Ideas

Deadline: September 20, 2011

Up to two photos may be submitted in each of the seven contest categories below. Make sure you include the category name under the "tag" section when entering photos on the Eugene, Cascades & Coast Photo Contest group on Flickr. Key experiences and/or ideas for each category are outlined below. Consider these suggestions or get creative with your own. Just remember, photos will be judged, in part, by how well they represent each category below:

Do you have special images of Eugene? The City of Eugene is partnering with the Eugene, Cascades & Coast Photo Contest this year and will be selecting its top photo picks from this year's entries that best represent Eugene. 

Contest Categories: 

1) Arts & Culture - Festivals to outdoor sculptures, performing arts and to colorful murals, showcase the area's lively arts and cultural scene.

2) Community Landmarks - Whether it's historic or a new addition to the local infrastructure, landmarks tell the stories of our communities both past and present.  Discover the landmarks that set each of our local towns and cities apart. Enter landmark photos that best represent one of the following communities: Eugene, Springfield, Cottage Grove, Lowell, Florence/Dune City, McKenzie River Valley, Junction City, Creswell, Oakridge/Westfir, Veneta/Fern Ridge and Coburg.

3) Culinary Bounty - Focus on the area's edible offerings. Visit a farm, winery or brewery that provides local products to area restaurants or attend a special event celebrating home grown delights.

4) For the Birds - From blue herons and hawks to eagles and egrets, the local area is home to an incredible range of species. Along with your camera, pack your binoculars and local birding guides as you venture out to the bird bastions around the county.

5) Nature's Seasons - The change of seasons continually alters our landscape's colorful palate as it affords a range of activities and adventures. From fall foliage leaf viewing to wintertime skiing, wildflower walks to a summer day at the beach.

6) Outdoor Adventures - "Real Adventures. Real Close." It's more than a slogan for the Eugene, Cascades & Coast territory. Explore miles of cycling routes and running trails. Head out for a hiking or camping trip in our scenic forests. Take in the views of our spectacular coastline and mountain ranges. There's so much to discover in the great outdoors.

7) Sports Action - Capture the competitive spirit of the region. Whether it's on the field, around the track or in the arena, get an action-packed shot and score big.
