Triathlons

Running may rank first in Eugene, Oregon but cycling and swimming are not far behind! Two new triathlons were added to Oregon's summer sports calendar in 2011: the Tri at the Grove in July and Triathlon Eugene: The Oregon Challenge in August. Already host to multiple marathons and national track and field championships, the Eugene, Cascades & Coast region continues to strengthen its reign as host for running competitions.

Eugene-based wheel manufacturer Rolf Prima hosts the Tri at the Grove in Cottage Grove (30 minutes south of Eugene) featuring sprint and Olympic distance individual and relay options. The triathlon centers around Cottage Grove Lake for the swim segment and both the run and cycle portions circle the lake.

"There are not too many places that have such beautiful rural landscapes with clean lakes and pristine tree-lined paths all within 30-minutes of city amenities," said Steve Cash, with dark30 sports and Tri at the Grove's Race Director.

California-based Pacific Sports LLC hosts Triathlon Eugene: The Oregon Challenge at Richardson Park at Fern Ridge Reservoir in late August. There is a long course, short course and youth course with individual and relay options.

"Eugene and the surrounding area offer some of the finest venues for the sport of triathlon in the United States," agrees Jack Caress, President & CEO of Pacific Sports LLC.
