Murals

Murals tell town stories and colorfully illustrate community characteristics. Discover more about the Eugene, Cascades & Coast region through each town's public wall art.

Mural of Cottage Grove Covered Bridge by Brianna Caridio
Cottage Grove has the largest collection of outdoor murals, with 20 mapped on their mural walking tour. Their most celebrated mural depicts former resident Opal Whiteley, a child prodigy who achieved a remarkable blending of science and faith in her compositions. With the beautiful backdrop of the Northwest, Opal stands surrounded by butterflies, trees, and a historic covered bridge.
Springfield also has an extensive concentration of murals downtown. Along their mural walk, view gigantic tributes to Northwest outdoor pursuits like fly fishing, celebrations of national patriotism and pioneering history of the Oregon Trail. On the second Friday each month, Springfield's art galleries along the mural walk host special exhibits and receptions.

Scattered throughout Eugene are many diverse murals. From the painting of Bob Marley and Jerry Garcia on Hunky Dory to the Morris Murals on the Eugene Post Office to the mosaic mural on the side of the Hilton Eugene & Conference Center, there are many different styles and mediums. While not technically a mural, inside the Eugene Airport is a 1980s photographic exhibit called "Flight Patterns" by photographer David Joyce that is a local favorite and one not to be missed.

After enjoying the region's murals and outdoor public art, pop into local art galleries for even more visual arts, from artisan crafts to fine arts collections.
