Guide to the Eugene Riverfront Festival

Published: July 15, 2022

The Eugene Riverfront Festival is the primary celebration hub during the World Athletics Championships Oregon22, July 15 - 24, 2022. This inaugural festival is staged on the banks of the Willamette River between Eugene's vibrant Market and University districts. Come here for entertainment, great food, shopping and the ultimate community experience. Watch the track events at Hayward Field live-streamed on a large screen — so you won't miss a moment of the magic!

The recently developed three-acre Riverfront Park highlights the natural beauty of the Willamette River. The culmination of careful planning, community consultations and artistic contributions have resulted in an accessible, environmentally sensitive and stunning public gathering place. River-inspired and cultural story-telling art installations, river overlook decks and sight lines, flower-and-shrub-filled rain gardens, and native-plant-lined walking and cycling trails run throughout the park which stretches along a bend of the Willamette River parallel to the intersection of Coburg Road and Hilyard Street.

The Riverfront Park is an anchor that pulls the city together: To the northwest is the bustling Market District, with its shops and cafes. To the southeast is the lush campus of the University of Oregon, home to the scene of all the action — Hayward Field. To the southwest, downtown Eugene beckons, with its buzzy restaurants and bars. And by pedaling or jogging across the Peter DeFazio Bridge, there is access to Alton Baker Park and the Oakway Center neighborhood.

Enjoy the Entertainment

On the main stage will be non-stop performers from across Oregon from noon to 10 p.m. daily. See everything from dance troupes to balloon artists to magic shows as well as iconic Eugene bands like Cherry Poppin’ Daddies. Some days host DJ sets, while others host martial arts or fire and circus performances!

The scene is family friendly, with an interactive "Kids' Zone". Activities will be hosted by Adventure! Children’s Museum, the Eugene Public Library, and more. Eugene Recreation is hosting a track and field themed 65-foot inflatable obstacle course so kids can "compete" right alongside the athletes. All kids' zone activities are free and open until 8 p.m.

Feast on the Food

Peel yourself away from the sights and sounds on the stage for a taste of Oregon at the food carts and vendors. Try Hayward Kitchen for iconic sports fan food, or go to Vanilla Jill’s & Elegant Elephant to get dietary-friendly satisfaction for your sweet tooth. Let Bali Kitchen or Makeda Cuisine bring a taste of the world to you right here in Eugene. And beer lovers should be sure to spend some time at Ninkasi’s Beer Garden, featuring their most popular beers as well as local wine, cider, and even canned cocktails. Food trucks will be dishing up meals until 10 p.m.

Shopping

If you want a souvenir to commemorate your TrackTown USA experience, the artisan market is the perfect place to get something uniquely Oregonian. Find beautiful, locally sourced and sustainable options at places like Discard Upcycling. Visit Will Leather Goods for limited runs of track and field themed totes and other beautifully made essentials that will remind you of this experience daily. Many vendors rotate on July 20, so make sure you make a few visits to take it all in.
