Activities Beyond Cottage Grove

Row River Bike Trail

The Row River Trail, filled with exquisite scenery of picturesque farms, lush pastures and tall trees, is a 15.6-mile trail which you can begin right from the city of Cottage Grove or from the Mosby Creek Trailhead. It follows the route of the now abandoned Oregon Pacific & Eastern Railroad lines. You may be familiar with these rail lines from the Rob Reiner's 1986 film Stand By Me as much of the filming was done along the old lines. The trail also runs along the scenic shore of the Row River and Dorena Lake. Several of the covered bridges are located nearby, as is the historic Bohemia Mining area.

Spirit Falls

Spirit Falls, Cottage Grove OR To arrive at Spirit Falls you will follow a gentle grade through dense, lush forest and then a switchback down toward Alex Creek. You will find yourself standing at a secluded pool with a picnic table just above. There are picturesque views of the 60-foot mossy waterfall. The lush forest surrounding the waterfall lets beautiful light through the trees in the evenings, especially in the summer months.

Upper Trestle Creek Falls

Accessible from Brice Creek Road, 27 miles east of Cottage Grove, these falls descend 65 feet down a tiered cliff and provide hikers opportunity to walk behind the waterfall. Only a 1.5 mile hike from the parking lot, elevation gains make the hike moderate to difficult, but the payoff is worth it. Lush and breathtaking forest surrounds the trail.

Brice Creek Trail

About 25 miles east of Cottage Grove, this trial is ideal for intermediate to advanced mountain bike riders. With 5.5 miles of single-track and 5 miles of paved forest road, the trail follows along Brice Creek and offers challenging terrain, lush waterfalls and dense forest.

Wineries

Your visit to the South Willamette Valley Wineries begins with a five minute drive to the north or a 25 minute drive to the west. Or if you choose to travel south, the first Umpqua Valley Winery is just a 30-minute drive from Cottage Grove. You will find many diverse and robust wineries on your journey. Many of them have produced award winning and notable wines known around the world and many have events throughout the year. 

Dorena Lake

Dorena Lake is surrounded by rolling hills and serene beauty, just six miles east of Cottage Grove. The lake is five miles long and covers 1,900 acres when full. Dorena Lake features three parks, including Schwarz Park and Harms Park, both operated by the Army Corps of Engineers, and Baker Bay Park, operated by Lane County. 

Village Green Gardens

The gardens at Village Green are quite extraordinary and not to be missed. In their sprawling acres you will find many smaller sections of the larger garden like The Bird Habitat which features a bird's favorite shrubs, flowers and trees for shelter. Or you may discover The Woodland, a small example of what you may find in the mountains nearby. This garden is home to Trilliums, Solomon's seal, many types of Ferns, Jack-in-the-pulpits and more. Many people chose to get married in the Wedding Garden surrounded by fragrant flowering trees and courtyard, complete with a beautiful fountain.

Middlefield Golf Course

Middlefield Golf Course in is an 18-hole executive course that is owned and operated by the city of Cottage Grove. A beautiful public course located in Cottage Grove, with easy access from Interstate 5. The 5,002 yard par 67 course is surrounded by mature landscaping with views of the nearby hills and borders the Row River for a scenic but challenging 18 holes.
