Celebrate the 40th anniversary of National Lampoon's "Animal House" in Cottage Grove with a parade, contests, celebrity appearances, film-screenings, a concert, tours, toga run, local vendors, a beer garden and what will be a most valiant endeavour to break the Guinness World Record for largest toga party. The parade begins at high noon with a toga parade down Main Street, including the Deathmobile, marching bands, firetrucks, horses and some of the "Animal House" cast and crew. Eat, drink and be merry when the beer, wine and food garden opens in Bohemia Park at 5 p.m.
At 7 p.m., it's the event everyone has been waiting for: TOGA PARTY! Wrap yourself in a bed-sheet and come party with music "Animal House" favorites Otis Day, The Kingsmen, The Cry and the Original Knights. Cottage Grove lost the world record for the largest toga party in 2012 when 3,700 sheet-clad university students gathered in Australia, so the town is looking to reclaim its glorious crown. Entrance to the concert and toga party requires white toga attire to be compliant with Guinness World Record rules. Get your tickets online from the Bohemian Festival webpage.
All of Cottage Grove is getting behind the celebrations, so there will be several related events to mark the occasion. The Bohemian Film Festival, featuring 180 short and full-length film selections, will be held on Friday, Saturday and Sunday in conjunction with the weekend's festivities. The Village Green Resort and Gardens is hosting a screening of "Animal House" on Friday night, complete with all the fixings to make it a party worthy of Delta Tau Chi.
