The Last Resort Players are presenting "Grey Gardens" as part of their 2018 season. Grey Gardens, based on the book by Doug Wright after the 1975 documentary of the same name, follows legendary American women as they fall from high society into poverty and derelict conditions. Edith "Big Edie" Bouvier Beale and her daughter Edith "Little Edie" Bouvier Beale, Jacqueline Kennedy's aunt and cousin, reminisce on their heydays as aristocrats and their downfall that led them to live an isolated existence at Grey Gardens, the run-down mansion in East Hampton. The play's first act, set in the 1940s, is largely fictional and portrays the younger years of both Edies. The second act follows Albert and David Maysles documentary depicting the lives of the two women at Grey Gardens as their funds run out and they live in increasing squalor. "Grey Gardens" features a diverse musical songbook including Tin Pan Alley jigs and soaring ballads that untangle the complex relationship between mother and daughter.
