Meet Me at the Zocalo

Details

Eugene's very own SLUG Queen, Santa Frida Elisa Refugio Babosita, aka Mija Andrade, will present a celebration of Latinx culture with support from the Downtown Program Fund. Queen Babosita's mission is to create an inclusive community culture, like those found in zocalos. Zocalos are lively city squares in Mexico City and bring inspiration to this event full of music, dancing, art projects, food trucks and more.

Performers include youth ballet folklorico group Alma de Mexico, Latin American folk group Lo Nuestro, Veracruz music and dance from Taller de Son Jarocho, Mexamericana band Llorona and live salsa band with salsa lessons from Descarga 54. See a demonstration of pre-Columbian indigenous instruments from Samuel Becerra who makes the instruments himself. Muralist Esteban Camacho Steffensen will also be on hand to lead a community mural project for installation in Buena Vista School. Treat yourself to treats as well at Domincan Delights food cart and Sweet Bay Shaved Ice.
