Reflections of the Cosmic Web

Reflections of the Cosmic Web: Intricate Patterns in Daoist Art, is a collection of textiles, paintings, prints, ceramics, jades and decorative objects featuring Daoist iconography. The pieces were collected  by the museum's founder, Gertrude Bass Warner, who lived in China for many years and there amassed a large collection of Chinese art from the Qing dynasty (1644 - 1912). Daoism, originating more than two millennia ago, is one of the two indigenous philosophical traditions of China. Adherents to the practice focus on the study of nature, harmony and the internal flow of energy. The works of the collection reflect this naturalistic theme with mystical imagery associated with concepts of Daoism.
