Resistance As Power - A Curatorial Response to "Under the Feet of Jesus"

Details

The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art's fourth "Common Seeing" exhibition supports the University of Oregon's "Common Reading" of "Under the Feet of Jesus" by Helena Maria Viramontes. The exhibit is a curatorial response to the book, which follows a resilient protagonist, 13-year-old Estrella, who works in the hot California grape fields while navigating the realities of first love, financial struggle family separation and illness. Two special artworks on loan anchor the exhibit: Emanuel Martinez 1967 work "Farm Workers' Altar" and Domingo Ulloa's 1960 piece "Braceros."
