The world premiere of The Passion of Yeshua by famed American composer Richard Danielpour. Commissioned in part by the Oregon Bach Festival, this full-length oratorio will be conducted by JoAnn Falletta. Sarah Shafer, J'Nai Bridges, Kenneth Overton and Matthew Worth will be featured soloists while the OBF Chorus and University of Oregon Chamber Choir will accompany. Instrumental music will be performed by the OBF Orchestra.
The Passion of Yeshua is presented in both Hebrew and English to tell the story of Jesus' final hours from a Jewish perspective. Voices traditionally silent in Biblical narratives, such as those of Mary, mother of Jesus, and Mary Magdalene, will be given space to shine in this retelling. Musically, the performance is situated in the musical legacy of the St. Matthew and St. John Passions written by Bach.
