This year on World Refugee Day, June 20, The Refugee Resettlement Coalition of Lane County will present two days of activities in celebration.
On June 20, the First United Methodist Church (1376 Olive St, Eugene 97401) hosts a gathering featuring award-winning photojournalist Paul Jeffery as a guest speaker. There will be models of a refugee center and refugee tent along with relief kits to assemble, student projects, traditional desserts, international food carts, storytelling, a play about immigrants and dancing. This evening's activities take place from 5 - 8 p.m.
On June 23, the Eugene Public Library (100 W 10th Ave, Eugene 97401) will host a second event with writer, researcher and advocate Tod Schneider giving a lecture about Syrian refugees trapped in Greece. This speech begins at 4 p.m.
World Refugee Day, presented by the Refugee Resettlement Coalition of Lane County, is sponsored by the Wayne Morse Center for Law and Politics, Catholic Community Services, First United Methodist Church, RRCLC and the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art.
