2020 Labor Day Weekend

The last summer hurrah before school starts again, and what a glorious Labor Day weekend it will be! Cherish the waning leisure-filled days by checking off the remaining items on your bucket list. This is the weekend to go camping along the Oregon Coast or up in the Cascades. Take a dune buggy ride or go river rafting. Head out to Alton Baker Park, Fern Ridge or Dorena Lake to rent a canoe, kayak or paddleboard while the concessionaires are still camped out.

Use Labor Day to drive or cycle the scenic back roads to local wineries or follow the Eugene Ale Trail around town. Or just browse Oregon's many antiques shops and second-hand stores.

Parks & Trails

When you are recreating in rural locations, please be respectful of local communities. Confirm that your destinations are indeed open and stick to places close to your home. If trail heads are congested when you arrive, go to a different trail. Before setting out, check the Adventure Checklist and have plan B and even plan C ready.

Wine Country

It's been a local tradition to visit our wineries over the Labor Day Weekend but this year be prepared for winery protocols to vary slightly from place to place. Some wineries may require reservations, only serve a limited number of guests, or have a maximum time limit at tables. Tasting pours may not be offered, but you may still be able to purchase wine by the glass or by the bottle. At all stops, expect to wear masks indoors and outdoors when not seated at your table or when socially distancing can't be maintained. We recommend you call ahead to confirm hours, availability and food options. Luckily, many of our wineries are in clusters, like grapes, so if one winery is at capacity, simply go to one nearby.

Cooling Off

With high temperatures, you'll naturally be drawn to the water. Please remember to practice safe swimming and be respectful of local communities near lakes and swimming holes.
