HIGHLIGHTS

PLAN YOUR TRIP

Beginning just an hour east of Eugene - Springfield along Hwy 126, McKenzie River is composed of a dozen small riverfront communities. There are a few general stores and the ever popular Takoda's Restaurant in Rainbow. During the summer, Belknap Hot Springs Resort offers outdoor BBQ sandwiches. But it's probably a good idea to pack some picnic provisions.

Golf Boarding at Tokatee Golf ClubTo complete the McKenzie River Edition, allow for at least one overnight in the Cascades. There are a variety of affordable and fun places to stay. Curl up in a cozy cabin, relax at a rustic B&B or pitch your tent at one of many exquisite campgrounds. Depending on the time of year, advance reservations are recommended.

Please note: Highway 242 is closed November through June. This only impacts a few of the caches.

WHAT'S THE CACHE?

We are glad you asked! Each edition of the GeoTour has a separate passport and trackable geocoin while supplies last. The McKenzie River Edition features 36 caches but only 24 caches are required to "officially" complete the tour. Caches range from easy to more challenging.

If this is your first geocaching journey, drop by the Adventure Center for some geocaching coaching and pointers. The Adventure Center is an excellent resource for travel planning, maps and local recommendations.

WHAT'S BEING SHARED

Hiker looking over the falls by Molly Blancett"Webforage and I picked up our "passports" at the visitor center at 9 a.m. and got our 24 caches by 5 p.m. (with a few side caches along the way.) We had to dig the last one out of the snow, so we'll wait [a] few months to get the rest. I've lived here for nearly 50 years and this geotour took us to places I'd never been before. Well done and Thanks!" - dad the neat

"I loved the tour! Even though I've been up the McKenzie many times, I still saw many new places! Thanks for the encouragement to stop & check things out."- Philomath, OR
