Just east of Springfield, the Thurston Hills Natural Area offers five trails with three mixed-use trails perfect for local hiking, with the main trailhead entrance located just off Main Street and 75th Street in Springfield. The 660-acre (267 ha) natural area is a gem of green space near the urban center. The trailhead provides restrooms, picnic tables, an information kiosk and a bicycle cleaning and repair station.
Upper and Lower Mossy Maple Trails offer 6 miles (9.7km) of round trip of hiking trails. Camas Crest Trail utilizes a gravel access road through oak savanna and upland prairie if you are looking for a viewpoint across the valley.
