Convention & Sports Coordinator

Purpose of Position

To promote the Eugene, Cascades & Coast region as a conventions and sports destination by supporting convention and sports sales and marketing efforts.


  • Support media efforts (research, data entry, media pitches, ad placements and reports)
  • Assist staff, members and media with content, image and video needs
  • Assist with social media strategies
  • Coordinate email marketing efforts (manage lists, write content, distribute and evaluate)
  • Implement content (press releases; articles; directory listings; social posts) across all platforms (websites, e-newsletters, Social Media, third party channels, paid digital ads, etc.).
  • Become fully-versed in the company CRM system; assist with data management projects as needed.
  • Research and contribute to Eugene, Cascades & Coast meetings/sports blogs and planner e-newsletters.
  • Provide content for industry publications, websites, blogs, presentations, and marketing tools as needed.
  • Keep promotional materials ready by coordinating requirements with graphics department.
  • Respond to media requests for story ideas and fact checking.
  • Assist with tradeshows, events and special projects.
  • Assist sales managers with proposal creation, client research and other projects as needed.
  • Introduce and maintain a presence of the Sports Commission mascot, Champ, in the community.
  • This position works as part of a team, and other tasks may be assigned as needed.

Position Requirements

  • College degree preferred; Degree in journalism, marketing or hospitality helpful
  • 1-year experience in a corporate setting, preferably in a Marketing related role preferred
  • Forward thinking and innovative
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with an emphasis on writing web content, blogs, and e-newsletters
  • Ability to represent the Eugene, Cascades & Coast region and Travel Lane County member products to media and stakeholders
  • Working knowledge of meetings industry preferred
  • Process-oriented, extreme attention to detail, hyper-organized and able to multi-task
  • Proficient with a variety of computer programs (database, Word, Excel, InDesign and Photoshop) and comfort with social media
  • Willing to work events after hours and on weekends when necessary
  • Eager to assist and follow directions
  • Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 35 pounds
  • Valid Driver's License and clean driving record


  • This is a full-time hourly, non-exempt position of 40 hours per week
  • Benefits include medical and dental insurance as well as paid holidays, vacation and sick leave.  Employee eligible for employer contribution into SEP/IRA after 2 years of employment.
  • This position reports to the Vice President of Conventions & Sports.
