PEACEFUL TRANQUILITY.

Rich and magnificent with its lodge-quality craftsmanship, Whispering Pines Oregon has over 300 feet of river frontage, and 600+ feet of creek frontage.  It sits on 2.75 acres of land bursting with rhodies, trees and ferns. Located just below Marten Rapids, it offers easy access to fishing, floating or just jumping in on a hot day.  Built on a rock foundation, the river front is solid rock – which gives you one large, natural patio to play on.

Summers on the McKenzie are a special treat for all ages, but so are the other seasons. Are you from CA and miss your seasons? Consider nestling in here and watching leaves change in the fall, or come in winter and read by the roaring fire after walking in the cold cold temperatures. Summer recreation can begin as soon as Spring begins to burst through the ground once again.

As you enter Whispering Pines, you will discover that it sits on a gated, private parcel, bordered on the West by  Marten Creek, and to the North, the McKenzie River. Your days and nights will be on a property that is just shy of 3 acres, bursting with old Douglas Firs, leafy ferns, 20-year old rhododendrons and much more. It is tranquil and quiet – a perfect get-away place. The common area in your vacation home features two fireplaces (with custom, beautiful Yew mantles), lots of window seating, and plenty of outdoors to roam, explore, and reflect. This site is unusual because of its close proximity to the water. You won’t find many sites like this one.

Located in Vida, Oregon, we share the river with neighboring homes, and a number of rafters and fishermen who float by.  No motors are allowed on the river, and kids have fun navigating the Marten Rapids that are just upstream from us.

The house is and will remain rustic, however, we have upgraded a few things for a better experience – new quartz kitchen counters, new family room recessed lighting, new 8-man hot tub, new stone work, new paint, and new skylights.  And we brought functional art into the home to enrich your experience.

The main level is 2400 sq feet, and the upper wing is 1050 sq ft. The main level has the Master (King) bedroom, and a second bedroom with a 2nd King bed (with a sofa bed), and it features the two common areas with dining area. The upstairs wing has two bedrooms (two Queens), and a sofa (bed) in the studio. The upstairs bathroom is shared between the two upstairs rooms, and has a separate (private) showering room; the full-size balcony offers views of the property. The upstairs wing is connected to the main floor via an enclosed breezeway – which gives the upstairs wing complete privacy. All beds have been upgraded to feature custom pine frames crafted by a local artist.

There is plenty of outdoor seating along the banks of the river, on the back decks, and on property. (The decks, by the way, are of Ipe wood, which speaks to the quality of materials used on this property). Paths through forest lead you to Marten Creek. Large rocks that rise above the river allow you to fish in the river, or when water is warm, to jump in and float. Outside fires are allowed as code permits. See more on the gallery page to get a better idea of the treat you are in for when you are on property. We have a portable grill for you, that operates on propane (one tank provided), and makes outdoor grilling super easy. There is a Traeger onsite; if you know how to use it we can make it available to you.

Can’t miss your workout? We understand – and have a weight room with free weights, kettle bells, bench press, leg press, elliptical, stretch straps and stability ball. While many of you will come to escape city-life, we do offer the modern conveniences of Wifi (broadband coming Fall 2018), and cable TV.  Amenities in each bathroom include hairdryers, magnifying mirrors, shampoo, lotion, Q-tips cotton balls, and (of course) towels. HVAC throughout, 2-car garage, and washer and dryer, ironing board and iron (although most never have a use for this in your laid back, easy lifestyle here).  If you drive a Tesla, we have a residential supercharger here.

The area is also rich with water falls, rivers, streams, hiking trails, fly-fishing, rafting, kayaking, biking, cycling and even rock climbing and tree climbing. Hunting season begins in fall, guests are responsible for their own compliance with local and state codes.

Ike’s Pizza, small restaurants and cafés are nearby, as well as a market. Be sure to check your hospitality news that will arrive in your in-box after your reservation as been confirmed. This will have more information for local activities.

This home is serene, and a place to take refuge from the busy world, or bond with friends on the river.  The river is dotted with homes, and at times, you will normal yard/tree equipment being used, but in general the area is quiet.  The functional art includes a 120-year old maple tree dining table, an exotic mexican wood side table in family room, a teak root coffee table from Bali, a carved bear tree floor lamp from Alaska,  custom steel art, old-style popcorn machine, a teak bench in entry (by same Bali craftsman), locally-crafted custom bed frames and benches, a hand-knotted Tibetan rug in family room, and two themed side tables at the dining room fireplace. We know you will love the very relaxed setting here at Whispering Pines, however, be aware there are inherent risks being close to water (see below). Because of this risk, and because of the functional art, children under 12 need approval to stay – we want the opportunity to speak with you and make sure this property will give you the best experience possible.

We are pride-of-ownership owners, and have been upgrading many of the features.  As such, we invite similar, like-minded people to come stay at Whispering Pines on the McKenzie River (also known as Whispering Pines Oregon).  You must be willing to love this home as we do while you are there – it is not a place to jump on beds, slam doors, and so forth.  While accidents happen, and we understand the normal wear-and-tear, we do ask that you treat the house kindly and respectfully. Once you have booked with us, you will have access to online tutorials on how to use the hot tub, popcorn machine, entertainment system, and other household mechanics to ensure you have a rich and fulfilling experience.

Since we are right on the water, in an effort of complete transparency, we are making you aware of the following:

NOTICE OF DANGEROUS CONDITIONS
THERE ARE RISKS INHERENT IN THE USE OF THE WATERWAYS (MCKENZIE RIVER AND MARTEN CREEK) THAT BORDER THIS PROPERTY, AND THESE RISKS CAN LEAD TO SERIOUS PHYSICAL INJURIES, INCLUDING SERIOUS PHYSICAL INJURIES THAT COULD CAUSE DEATH; AND THERE IS AN INHERENT RISK OF DEATH BY DROWNING.
ALL USERS OF THE WATERWAYS SHOULD EXERCISE CAUTION.

Here is a little background for you on our river. The McKenzie River is a 90-mile tributary of the Willamette River – it drains part of the Cascade Range East of Eugene and flows westward into the southernmost end of the Willamette Valley. It originates as the outflow of Clear Lake, is named for Donald MacKenzie, who I believe was a Scottish Canadian fur trader. The fish include Chinook Salmon, Mountain Whitefish, and Bull and Rainbow Trout. Dippers, mergansers, bald eagles, ospreys and various ducks feed on the fish. The Northern Spotted Owl lives in the dense forest on the west side of upper McKenzie Basin in Linn County. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McKenzie_River_(Oregon)

Hiking and mountain biking are popular activities on trails in the McKenzie watershed. The river is popular for boating, especially fishing, kayaking, and whitewater rafting.

Goodpasture Rd is a quiet street with homes on large parcels. Whispering Pines is protected from Hwy 126 noise by its unique location in relation to the highway. Not many homes along the river have our curb-appeal, our riverfront, and our protection from highway noise. It is a jewel, and it is well-loved and well cared for. Treat yourself to its beauty.

Tranquil retreat with room for all!

Date of Stay  April 7, 2016
You enter this beautifully appointed home and leave all you your cares behind when the view of the McKenzie River through the span of windows meets your eyes! I was one of ten friends for a weekend escape and we couldn’t have asked for more. I was one of two lucky ones to got to feel pampered with the plush master suite with my own balcony, window bench, soaking bathtub, dressing room, and high-end linens! The kitchen and pantry was all stocked and organized with labels with top of the line everything. There are multiple bedroom zones which is nice for large groups with different bedtime needs. I enjoyed the ease of the food buffet counter, eating and visiting outdoors, and relaxing in front of a ready-to-light fireplace, which above it had the most amazing metal sculpture artwork! Great comfortable seating for visiting in the living room. We used the ice-cream maker to treat ourselves. Never had time to use the popcorn machine. I will remember the hiking around the calm Clear Lake and our visit to Sisters, OR. I felt the three night stay was not long enough. Wonderful experience!

Enjoyed this beautifully located home on the McKenzie River this past weekend with 10 other friends. We had comfortable accommodations, well stocked kitchen and bathrooms and everything was very well organized and labeled.I especially appreciated the labels on light switches. Lots of seating inside and outside, even by the rivers edge. Close to many trail heads for hiking, falls, mountain views and a ranger station. We drove to Sisters one day and had lunch and shopped. Property manager surprised us with fresh baked gluten free cookies! Laundry facilities and gym a plus. Great place for a large family gathering or group of friends.

I just spent 3 nights (not long enough!) at this great home with my awesome group of 10 girlfriends. The house is very well appointed inside and out, spacious, tastefully furnished, comfortable, full of windows and light, and right next to the McKenzie River. Great hiking, and we went to Sisters for a very fun side trip. Wonderful place!

Stunning location

The gorgeous MacKenzie River right outside almost every window, many levels of deck and sitting area to enjoy the view, and all the comforts of home are here at Whispering Pines. The cabin is spread out so guests have room for privacy as well as togetherness. The river is swift here in the springtime so I wouldn’t want to swim or let my dogs go in the water. Trailheads are a drive away though. Very clean and comfortable.
Owner’s Response
Mary, So glad you enjoyed the beautiful views of the river, it truly is a peaceful spot on the McKenzie river! And happy you enjoyed all the comfortable amenities! And good to. One, river runs much faster and fuller in winter months.  Summer is much calmer.

“This past weekend several extended family members met together in Eugene OR for University of Oregon’s Family Weekend. Waiting too long to make reservations in town we were forced to look just outside of town. Our procrastination delivered us a windfall as I happened upon Jane & Dan’s new listing, Whispering Pines B & B on the McKenzie River. Their place is an easy, scenic 30 minute drive out Hwy 126 east and well worth the time. We arrived to most lovely setting in the woods, right on the McKenzie River. The home affords views from all of the common areas with an abundance of window seating, is well built and maintained accordingly. We arrived to fresh baked cookies and a tour of the place. Jane & Dan were gracious hosts and made us feel at home right away. They even accommodated an extra last minute guest for us. They gave us the perfect amount of privacy so we all could catch up with each other. Part of our group ventured into town for the big game against CAL, while others stayed behind to relax & talk with each other. Dan had the fireplace roaring which provided a nice ambiance and warmth. The bedrooms and bathrooms were comfortable and nicely decorated. After sleeping peacefully and soundly we woke up to the smell of fresh brewed coffee and freshly baked cinnamon rolls. And that was just the beginning. Our group was spoiled with the most wonderful breakfast. They made a sausage & egg casserole, fresh fruit & yogurt cups and served orange juice or mimosa’s. I can’t promise you the same delicious meal if you stay here, but I can assure you Jane & Dan will make your stay as pleasant and enjoyable as possible. We left feeling well rested, well fed and well loved. Definitely going to return and maybe even in the summer so we can enjoy the river and property surrounding. Thank you Jane & Dan!”
