Create! Eugene Plein Air Paint Out Week
August 19 - 24, 2014

-Artists take to the streets for outdoor painting event this Wednesday-

Eugene, Ore.- Create! Eugene's Plein Air Paint Out week gets underway with painting contests, demonstrations, socials, special events, workshops and an art exhibit. Plein Air is simply known to artists as the art of painting outdoors.

Tuesday, August 19, artists will head to the Oregon Art Supply, at 1020 Pearl St. in Eugene, between 3 and 8 p.m., to register and get their canvases stamped with an official Create! Eugene logo required to participate. Also on Tuesday, an artist social will be held at Hop Valley Brewing, at 990 W. 1st St., in Eugene, starting at 7:30 p.m. Artists will network with fellow painters while enjoying live demos by art vendors Gamblin Paints, Golden Acrylics and QoR Watercolors.

On Wednesday, August 20, the Plein Air Paint Out Competition officially begins. That's when dozens of painters will take to the streets in search of landscapes and cityscapes to paint for the competition. Suggested venues will include everything from the Fifth Street Public Market and Owen Rose Garden to the Hult Center for the Performing Arts and Skinner Butte Columns.

The Plein Air Paint Out Competition will come together in a festive, community event in downtown Eugene Wednesday, August 20, from 5:30 to 8 p.m., in Eugene's Kesey Square at Willamette & Broadway. Artists who have painted scenes of the local area earlier in the day will submit their paintings by 4 p.m. in Kesey Square. The entries will go on display for the evening event, which is free and open to the public. The event will feature plein air painting demos, live music, a kids art station, live music, and a wine and beer terrace. This year's juror, Paul Zegers, will select winners of the 2014 Create! Eugene Plein Air Paint Out Competition and prizes will be awarded.

On Thursday, August 21, a new component of the Plein Air Paint Out event will be held. Breakfast with the Juror will feature this year's juror Paul Zegers, who will share his perspective on judging art and speak about the final award winners. Zegers will also lead a two-day workshop at Aragon Alpaca Farm in Southwest Eugene on August 23 & 24, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., each day.
