Eugene, Ore. - Cycle Oregon is one of the nation's premiere cycling events and this year the event celebrates its 30th Anniversary with The Classic (7-day ride) featuring several Lane County communities and two of the state's scenic bikeways located right here in Lane County!

"Elected officials, cycling advocates and many other agency staff and interested folks have been participating in the East Lane County Bicycle Tourism Studio process in an effort to leverage the tremendous cycling resources and opportunities we have in Lane County. To hear that Cycle Oregon will be coming through east Lane County is the validation that our efforts are on the right track and that we can become an even greater draw for cyclists in the years to come," noted Oakridge Mayor Jim Coey.

Cycling in Oregon generates over $400 million in visitor spending each year.  Events like Cycle Oregon contribute to this overall effort while providing additional community benefits through its Cycle Oregon Fund. In 2016, the fund provide over $200,000 in grants to community groups throughout Oregon and since its inception in 1996 the fund has distributed over $1.8 million.

Cottage Grove City Manager Richard Meyers, chair of the Oregon Scenic Bikeway committee, had this to say, "When we found out the 30th anniversary route would be coming to Dorena we couldn't have been more excited. In 2008 and 2011 Cottage Grove was privileged to share the beauty of our community when we hosted Cycle Oregon riders and I know the community will roll out the red carpet when this year's group arrives."

The route will challenge riders while delighting them with views that won't be easily forgotten. Day 6 features a stunning ride along the Aufderheide Scenic Highway and ends in McKenzie River Valley. Carol Tannenbam, McKenzie River Chamber of Commerce tourism committee chair, commented, "Our members are excited to host the more than 1,500 cyclists participating in this 30th anniversary ride. While known for hiking, rafting and fishing, the McKenzie Valley is home to many exciting mountain biking and road cycling opportunities. This event will place an exclamation point on the chamber's efforts to show all that we have to offer!"
