Outdoor Recreation Means Business along the McKenzie River
Rainbow, Ore. -Get ready for an adventure! On Saturday, July 25, Horse Creek Lodge will celebrate their new Blazin' Saddles Bike Shop and Outdoor Center, opening in Rainbow.
Born out of a partnership between Horse Creek Lodge and the original Blazin' Saddle Bike Shop in Sisters, Ore., the new Outdoor Center will act as a full-service bike shop and as a hub of information and services around various outdoor activities like white water rafting, mountain bike shuttles and paddleboard rentals.
According to recent research, the McKenzie Pass Scenic Bikeway alone generated 1.7 million in bicycle related travel expenditures.
"We needed a place to support the increase in cycling, mountain biking and other outdoor recreational tourism we've been seeing over the last few years," says Alyssa Brownlee, Owner of Horse Creek Lodge. "The owner of Blazin' Saddles jumped right in when I approached him to see if he would be interested in partnering on this venture. And now, after a month of remodels, we are thrilled to open the doors!"
Friday, July 24 marks the store's flagship weekend. Official grand opening celebrations will be on July 25 with giveaways and raffles throughout the day to raise money for a newly formed McKenzie Trail Fund. As part of the grand opening weekend, there will be a trail work weekend on O'Leary, a mountain biking trail recently designated as an IMBA Epic.
"The bike shop will also act as an information center, and will be a fantastic resource for visitors and the community" says Natalie Inouye, Vice President of Tourism Marketing for Travel Lane County. "The McKenzie River is already known as an incredible area for outdoor recreation. It is exciting to see local businesses grow, fulfill community goals, and help visitors experience the best our public lands have to offer."
