The 2nd Annual SportsTown Awards Sound Success!
Eugene, Ore – The second annual SportsTown Awards, presented by the Eugene, Cascades & Coast Sports Commission was met with success. Returning master of ceremonies Jordan Kent made the night one to remember at the Valley River Inn in Eugene. Awards included Male and Female Student Athlete of the Year, Athletic Trainer of the Year, Athlete with Heart, Sustainable Sports Event of the Year, Inspirational Coach of the Year, Sports Promotion of the Year, Fan of the Year, Mascot of the Year and the SportsTown Legacy Award.
An interactive Student Nominee Recognition Exhibit was a new addition, adding extra recognition to the student athletes nominated for Male and Female Student Athlete of the Year. Attendees used an app to view videos talking about their many accomplishments. The exhibit was sponsored by FastSigns and Long’s Meat Market.

Sustainable Sports Event of the Year – 2016 Olympic Team Trails – Track & Field
Inspirational Coach of the Year – AJ Robinson, Winston Churchill High School
Athlete with Heart – Blake Nelson, Creswell High School
Athletic Trainer of the Year – Laura Baker, Sheldon High School
Sports Promotion of the Year – Ninkasi Brewing
Fan of the Year – Adam Smith, Lane United Red Aces
Mascot of the Year – Springfield High School Miller
SportsTown Legacy Award – Harry Mara
EVENT GOALS
The SportsTown Awards recognized the best achievements in sports tourism, recognized responsible / sustainable sports events practices, celebrated youth, prep and collegiate athletics, recognized fan interaction (mascots), identified inspirational stories and celebrated significant local contributions to sports.
