The SportsTown Awards recognize the best achievements in sports tourism, recognize responsible / sustainable sports events practices, celebrate youth, prep and collegiate athletics, recognize fan interaction (mascots), identify inspirational stories and celebrate significant local contributions to sports.
Janis Ross, Executive Director, Eugene, Cascades & Coast Sports Commission, noted “the Sports Commission’s objective is to position the SportsTown Awards as the premiere countywide sports recognition event, and to convey and celebrate the economic, social, and health values of sport.”
When asked about last year’s event Cesar Ocampo said “It felt like you were involved in something that was meaningful for the community. So many people have come up to me and congratulated me for winning [the 2016 Athletic Trainer of the Year]. I’m excited to see what they do this year.” Cesar Ocampo is the Athletic Trainer at North Eugene High School and Lane United Football Club. He was the winner of the 2016 Athletic Trainer of the Year.
