Travel Lane County Presents Annual Visitor Industry Awards

Eugene, Ore. - At its annual awards ceremony, Travel Lane County honored local businesses, organizations and individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the local visitor industry. The 2013 Eugene, Cascades & Coast Visitor Industry Celebration was held Tuesday, June 11 at the Valley River Inn. Awards were presented in seven categories.

2013 Eugene, Cascades & Coast Appreciation Award
Richard Boyles, President, Innsight Hotel Management Group
Richard Boyles was recognized for his leadership, time and dedication to the local visitor industry. For the past 10 years, he has served on the Travel Lane County Board of Directors, where he currently serves as board chair. Boyles' Innsight Hotel Management Group owns and operates five local hotels. He is also the owner of Iris Vineyards.

2013 Eugene, Cascades & Coast Destination Award
Ninkasi Brewing Company
Ninkasi Brewing Company was recognized for their role in putting Eugene on the national craft beer map. They were celebrated for their quality product and innovative marketing that has elevated the craft beer culture and drawn visitors to the region. They were also noted for their contributions to the Whiteaker neighborhood, providing vision and community spirit that has helped build a collaborative brewing community.

2013 Eugene, Cascades & Coast Enrichment Award
Cuthbert Amphitheater / Kesey Enterprises
Cuthbert Amphitheater and venue operators Kesey Enterprises received the Enrichment Award for enhancing the local performing arts scene with its diverse, quality programming and its distinct, inviting atmosphere.

2013 Eugene, Cascades & Coast Partnership Award
Geocaching Team and Groundspeak
Geocachers and Groundspeak volunteers Chuck Vanlue, Dana Oliver and James Buckley were honored for giving freely of their time, talents and energy to the Eugene, Cascades & Coast GeoTour project. Partnering with Travel Lane County, the geocaching team created a distinct, two-part GeoTour leading from the Oregon Coast to the Cascades. They also led community workshops to teach residents and visitors about geocaching and the new tour opportunities in the region.

2013 Eugene, Cascades & Coast Convention Leadership Award
Steve Mital, UO Office of Sustainability for International Sustainable Campus Network
The University of Oregon was the first U.S. university to host the prestigious International Sustainable Campus Network Symposium. Steve Mital, Director of Sustainability at the UO, was instrumental in bringing the event to Eugene, coordinating the program and showcasing the region's sustainable assets.

2013 Eugene, Cascades & Coast Sports Leadership Award
Eugene Figure Skating Club for the Northwest Pacific Regional Figure Skating Championships

The Eugene Figure Skating Club was recognized for its effort and perseverance in securing the Northwest Pacific Regional Figure Skating Championships. The event brought in a significant number of visitors and economic impacts, while showcasing the Lane Events Center as an ice sports venue.

2013 Eugene, Cascades & Coast Hospitality Awards
Marriott Residence Inn Front Desk Associates
The Marriott Residence Inn front desk associates were honored for their exceptional hospitality and guest relations. The team was recognized for consistently going above and beyond to ensure visitors discover and experience the region's attractions, activities and events.

Karen Rodgers, Manager, Wayfarer Resort
Karen Rodgers of the Wayfarer Resort on the McKenzie River was honored for her contributions to the local visitor industry. Rodgers was particularly acknowledged for sharing her knowledge of and enthusiasm for the McKenzie River area with visitors, as well as her work on projects benefiting the region.

Cedric Rudd, Former Director of Sales, Red Lion Inn
Cedric Rudd, formerly of the Red Lion Inn, was honored for his genuine commitment to and care of visitors. He was recognized as an exemplary community ambassador for his ability to understand and meet the needs of travelers and meeting delegates.

Title sponsors included Home Federal Bank and InnSight Hotel Management Group. Curtis Restaurant Equipment sponsored the Hospitality Award. The Lane County Lodging Association sponsored the Convention Leadership Award and the Sports Leadership Award. Additional support was provided by Attic Media, Inc., Wendy Gregory Photography, Green Solutions Printing, Mike Leckie Sculpture, the Valley River Inn, and Ballet Fantastique, whose dancers performed during the evening.

Travel Lane County is a private, nonprofit association dedicated to economic development through visitor spending.  In 2012 visitors to Lane County generated more than $555 million in spending for Lane County's economy and supported 8,240 jobs.
