Travel Lane County President/CEO Appointed to the U.S. Travel Association Board of Directors
Eugene, Ore. - Kari Westlund, President and CEO of Travel Lane County has been appointed to serve a two-year on the Board of Directors of the U.S. Travel Association. Westlund will serve as an at-large member of the board and will begin her term in March 2016.
Westlund brings a wealth of experience to this new role. Her 20 years leading Travel Lane County is bolstered by the experience she gained serving as the chair of the Oregon Tourism Commission for two years. She also provided industry leadership by serving as president of the Oregon Destination Marketing Organization, as president of the Destination Marketing Association of the West, and as a founding member and past chair of the Destination Marketing Association of the West Foundation Board.
Upon hearing the news of her appointment Westlund commented, "It is a great honor to represent Oregon's travel and tourism industry at the national level. Oregon will be well-represented as my colleagues Todd Davidson, CEO of Travel Oregon, will serve as U.S. Travel board chair, and Jeff Miller, CEO of Travel Portland, will serve as a fellow director. As tourism's importance to Oregon's economy continues to grow, issues that affect our industry nationally also affect Oregon. I'm excited that we will have an even stronger voice in shaping the policies that enable our tourism efforts to contribute even more to the economic vitality of communities throughout Oregon."
The U.S. Travel Association is the national, non-profit organization representing all components of the travel industry that generates $2.1 trillion in economic output and supports 15 million American jobs. As the united voice of the industry, U.S. Travel prioritizes high-impact issues that matter most to our collective membership. We not only identify the industry's biggest opportunities and challenges, but also develop the messages and actions to create positive growth. We advocate for policies that will advance and elevate our industry on the national level, engaging our members with the tools, research and resources needed to influence change at state and local levels.
"Kari's impressive track record of bringing visitors to her wonderfully distinct area of Oregon makes her an excellent fit for U.S. Travel's Board of Directors," said Roger Dow, President and CEO of the U.S. Travel Association. "Her unique perspective will serve to leverage the collective strength of our industry as we address critical issues that impact travel to and within the U.S., such as improving our travel infrastructure and facilitating more inbound travel."
