University of Oregon Named a Green College

Published: August 01, 2009

Kristin Underwood of describes innovative ways the University of Oregon is staying green.

"The University of Oregon-Eugene found a way to harness electricity directly from their students: Each run on the treadmill sends power back to the grid. Getting around on two wheels is the norm--campus bike racks are packed with some 4,000 student bikes. A $40,000 grant program funds student conservation initiatives and the student government is given a $1 million annual budget for conservation and sustainability projects. Several solar arrays have also been installed around campus. Long may you run, UO, long may you run!"
