Culinary Schools

Lane Community College (LCC) offers an accredited culinary arts program. The two year Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management curriculum supports careers as chefs, food service managers, food prep supervisors and managers, restaurant cooks and production bakers. LCC also offers a Career Pathways Certificate Program in Baking and Pastry; Restaurant Ownership; and Meeting, Conventions and Special Events Management.

LCC's robust culinary school includes the student run Renaissance Room on campus. The restaurant is open to the public for lunch during school terms and for private dining functions by reservation. Arrange for your special dinner to be catered by LCC's aspiring student teams.

Additionally, the students showcase their skills at two classical cuisine dinners held winter and spring term. All menus are designed around local, seasonal and sustainable ingredients. In 2013, LCC published the Taste of Lane cookbook, a collection of student recipes specific to to the region and organized by season. Proceeds from the cookbook sales go toward Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management student scholarships.

Other Schools & Classes

Oregon State University offers a Lane County Extension Service Master Food Preserver Program at various locations in Eugene. Periodic courses include exciting options including making soft cheeses, homemade condiments, pickling, canning and baking. Food safety guidelines and tips are also available via a free online library.

In Eugene there are three gourmet kitchen stores with demonstration kitchens, Provisions Market Hall, Pepperberries and Cook's Pots & Tabletops. Occasionally they host guest chefs or offer cooking classes. Local star cater Heidi Tunnell from Creswell Bakery is also another good resource.
