Valhalla Winery

Formerly Domaine MeriwetherDomaine Meriwetherby Kayla Krempley

Popping corks set the tone for this deliciously romantic winery in Veneta. Valhalla Winery, formerly Domaine Meriwether, is known best for their sparkling wines but have recently broadened their offerings with notable still wines.

Just off Highway 126, Valhalla Winery is a convenient stop on the way to the coast. Select a bottle of red, white or bubbly for sharing as the sun sinks into the Pacific Ocean. Just past the city of Veneta, a series of fluttering flags mark the driveway into the winery, so you won't miss it.

This beautiful vineyard's first harvest was in 1998 by Dr. Jack Bagdade with winemaker Jean-Louis Denois from Champagne, France. The duo was committed to winemaking using traditional Methode Champenois practices. They named the vineyard Domaine Meriwether.

In 2013, Eric and Lorrie Normann acquired the Domain Meriwether property. The Normanns had also ventured into winemaking in the 90s with a 12-acre (4.8 ha) vineyard near King Estate. Lorrie honed her knowledge at Lavelle Vineyards, which coincidently at that time, was producing Domaine Meriwether's first wines under Jean-Louis Denois. She then left to partner with Dan Smith in the phenomenally successful creation of Sweet Cheeks Winery. Eventually, Lorrie focused her skill exclusively on Domaine Meriwether.

Today, Valhalla Winery is a hub for fine wine and also a social destination. Themed soirees held on-site include beach parties, dances and holiday festivities. From "Grown Up Proms" to Halloween Masquerades, it is easy to get into the spirit here. Aptly suited for weddings and special events, the winery features a sweet "Bridal Cottage" with two bedrooms, two baths, kitchen and a bridal dressing room complete with a three-seat mirrored vanity for the bridal party.
