Walnut Ridge Winery

Walnut Ridge Wine Pour by Colin MortonWalnut Ridge Winery is in a cluster of wineries just west of Junction City. Built on a knoll, the French Colonial style tasting room was modeled after a 1760s New Orleans building once belonging to a French pirate. It had caught the fancy of Walnut Ridge owners Jim McGavin and Wendy Golish, who imported the architecture's classic charm to Oregon's sunny hillside.

Relax on the front patio and soak up sweeping views of the neighboring vineyards. Inside there is a cozy fireplace and dining tables. One not-to-be-overlooked highlight of Walnut Ridge is their small plates, perfect to pair with their wine. The short but outstanding seasonal menu turns wine tasting into a complete event for the palate.

Walnut Ridge Tasting Room During Rain by Colin Morton

Walnut Ridge

In 1996, Jim McGavin and Wendy Golish decided to grow grapes in the Willamette Valley after a memorable visit to the region. For years they combed the Willamette Valley in search of the perfect wine property coupled with the slower pace of country living. They found it just west of Junction City in an area already known for its fine vineyards and laid back approach. Walnut Ridge's Bellpine soil supports forest, pasture and 30 acres (12 ha) of hand-tended vineyard. During the spring, daffodils bloom along the roadsides and locals cruise the neighborhoods enjoying the simple beauty.

Wine Maker Jim McGavin, Walnut Ridge by Colin MortonIn 2010, Walnut Ridge became co-owners of long time customer Sass Winery. Winemaker Jerry Sass' philosophy of minimal intervention includes hand picking and hand sorting. Walnut Ridge Vineyard is certified sustainable by LIVE and has the Salmon Safe designation since 2005.
