Amtrak's Eugene train station has many accessible features including a wheelchair lift and a wheelchair available for use. The station is centrally located in downtown Eugene with easy curbside pick up and drop off and parking. Likewise, the Eugene Airport provides accessible amenities and wheelchairs. Their "Airport Navigators" help with airport and area information.
Getting around the Eugene - Springfield metro area is made easier by Lane Transit District's (LTD)'s excellent network of accessible routes and lift-equipped buses. Every bus has ramps, low-floor technology, on-board announcements, reserved spaces for seniors and people with disabilities, spaces for people who use mobility devices and secure tie-downs. Hailing kits, raised-line and braille maps, large print materials and recordings may be requested.
Riders can also schedule a training to use the bus. This is especially beneficial for seniors and people with disabilities so they can have the tools, support and confidence needed to ride independently. LTD has transit hosts located at the Downtown Eugene Station on week days to help people make transfers and to answer general questions. The LTD hosts can pre-schedule assistance to meet a bus as it arrives and escort passengers to their next bus, reducing any stress around making connections.
LTD also operates a voluntary "Paw Print" program to make it more convenient for people who are riding with a service animal. Participants register their service animal with LTD, getting a paw print symbol on their rider card, and thus do not have to repeatedly explain their animal's service function each time they board. However, a paw print is not required for riding with a service animal.
There is a half-fare program for people with disabilities that meet eligibility requirements and free service for anyone 65 years or older. Both fare programs require an application approval. In addition to the bus, LTD operates RideSource, an origin-to-destination service designed for people who need extra help due to a disability. Pre-approval to use this service is required, and rides must be scheduled in advance.
The University of Oregon offers a campus ride service for students, faculty, staff and visitors with limited mobility. There is also access to carpooling and car share programs for students, faculty and staff. Please contact directly for eligibility, registration and reservations.
