Trail Rides, Ranches, Arenas & Camps
Trail rides are abundant here, from wide-open coastal beaches to gentle rides through wine country to riverside jaunts in the Cascades. Discover equestrian state parks close by, some only fifteen minutes from Eugene's city center. Peacefully meander on a trail under a dense canopy of evergreen trees and reconnect with nature.
Elijah Bristow State Park on the Willamette River provides riders with more than 10 miles (16 km) of trails including a portion of the Eugene to Pacific Crest Trail. A separate staging area with tables, water, electricity, and a restroom add to the convenience of this destination. Howard Buford Recreation Area (Mt Pisgah) is also a popular horse riding destination.
Just outside Florence, equestrians can enjoy a beautiful beach ride at Baker Beach.
Equestrian Community
Every July, the Eugene Pro Rodeo is held at the Oregon Horse Center. In 2012, The Back Country Horsemen of Oregon hosted their national board meeting in Eugene. These volunteer trail stewards preserve the beautiful riding trails and protect equestrian interests. Visitors traveling with their horses can stay at local farms with stables.
