Hayward Field at the University of Oregon is a world-class track and field facility. Completed in 2020, the venue seats 12,000 (expandable to 25,000) and includes modern locker rooms, an equipment room, video room, weight room, indoor practice area, and training and sports medicine facilities.
Runners, both the athletes and the fans, consider the University of Oregon's Hayward Field as a cherished destination for track and field. Fans enjoy unobstructed sight lines throughout, great acoustics, proximity to the competition and spacious seating. A massive Visual Experience Board arcs across the north side, spanning 160 feet, with a 60 foot height, making it the largest permanent video screen for a track and field stadium in the U.S.
Artwork and history is woven into the architecture of the stadium, from metal portraits of athletes, paintings and bronze sculptures to repurposed materials throughout the exterior and interior designs. Beneath the multi-story landmark tower there is a 40,000-square-foot lobby, called Hayward Hall, with ground views out to the track and a museum-style experience with tributes to Oregon’s rich running heritage, historic track events, and Oregon coaches and athletes.
A private elevator and stairway (not open to the public) goes to tower offices and a tiny observation deck from where you can see the track, Autzen Stadium and Matthew Knight Arena along with Spencer Butte.
Hayward Field was host to the World Athletics Championships in 2022 — the first time this event took place in the United States. From multiple U.S. Olympic Trials to the Eugene Marathon finish, this hallowed site has been home to esteemed track and field since 1921.
Hayward Field graces the south end of the UO campus in the South University Neighborhood. Nearby dining includes fine dining Italian, pizza, ice cream, a craft brewery and a patisserie. Hotels are clustered along Franklin Blvd, in downtown Eugene and Springfield, all in close proximity.
