The Horsepasture Mountain Trail takes hikers up the west side of Horsepasture Mountain through old-growth forest and across lush meadows before reaching the rocky summit, which offers a commanding view of the Three Sisters and Cascade Mountain Range. The 3-mile (4.8-km) out-and-back trail can be accessed from the time snow melts, often June, through October, although wildflowers peak in July. Look in shaded areas for delicate white blooms such as bunchberry, Solomon's seal and western trillium; in the meadows for purple aster, crimson columbine, bluebells and meadow paintbrush; and in rocky outcroppings for several species of penstemon ranging from pale lavender to brilliant magenta.
