The Lone Wolf/Patterson Mountain Trail includes many features that make it a great late spring to early fall hike. Throughout 2.5 miles (4 km), the trail passes through groves of large and small trees, crosses meadows, climbs to the top of a ridge for a grand view of the Willamette Valley and provides access to the Lone Wolf Shelter. Dry and wet meadows, rocky outcrops and old-growth forest offer prime habitats for a variety of endemic wildflower species to grow. From May through late summer, look for flowers such as glacier lilies, Menzies' larkspur, yellowleaf iris, Pacific bleeding heart, dwarf rose, Cusick's checkerbloom, Oregon anemone and several species of flowering berries.
