Formed by glaciers 10,000 years ago, Waldo Lake is one of the purest lakes in the world - some rank it third. Filled by springs and snow melt, there is little plankton. Fish stocked with kokanee, cutthroat and rainbow trout until 1991. The bottom can be visible on a calm day through 100 ft (30 m) of indigo water. Gas motors and seaplanes are prohibited. Enjoy the quiet. At 9.8 sq miles (25 km), with a maximum depth of 420 ft (130 m), Waldo Lake is Oregon's second largest natural lake, and second deepest. Day Use Fee Area/Recreation Pass. Three campgrounds with boat ramps.
