Eugene, OR The 2023 Oregon State Hanmadang Martial Art Tournament and Expo returns to Lane County as a two-day event on May 5 and 6 at Bob Keefer Center for Sports and Recreation in Springfield.

The Pacific Northwest Martial Art Expo will open at 5:00 p.m. Friday, May 5. The event is a collaboration of many local and regional martial art schools that showcases their offerings and skills. Exhibitions will include a traditional lion's dance, an extreme trick kick competition, a 360 jump back kick exhibition, tatami sword cutting, Korean archery and power breaking events. The public is invited to come watch. Entry is $5.00 and children under five are admitted at no cost.

The All Styles, Martial Art Skills Tournament begins at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 6 and continues throughout the day. The tournament will feature Korean archery, wood sword paper cutting, power breaking, creative board breaking, speed spinning hook kick breaking, high jump front kick elimination events and more. Entry is $10.00 and children under five are admitted at no cost. Vendors and food trucks will be on-site at the event.

Many participants receive scholarships to come to the tournament and compete for prizes donated by the local business community. The event will bring national and international professional officials and judges, including Grand Master Nelson De Jesus, Head Official for the U.S. Taekwondo Committee. Recruiters will be scouting black belts for participation in the U.S. Open Taekwondo Hanmadang and the World Taekwondo Hanmadang in Korea.
