Eugene, OR - Travel Lane County is governed by a 30-member board of directors. We currently have an at-large position available on our board. Travel Lane County is a private non-profit 501(c)6 corporation, founded in 1980. It has a thirty-member voting board and appointed, non-voting ex-officio members who are encouraged to participate in discussions and announcements.
The board is responsible for marketing Lane County as a visitor destination, Travel Lane County’s mission is to increase overnight visitors, thereby enhancing the local economy through the importation of visitor dollars.
Travel Lane County is funded from county room tax, receiving 2.1 points of transient room tax, currently 2.8 million dollars per annum, from Lane County. Travel Lane County’s total budget is $4 million, with close to $225,000 coming from partner dues, sponsorships and advertising revenue. Travel Lane County has nearly 600 partner businesses located throughout Lane County.
Board members are expected to attend board meetings, and Travel Lane County partner events as possible, including the Spring Visitor Industry Celebration luncheon and the holiday mixer in December. Three consecutive unexcused absences from board meetings is considered a resignation per the Bylaws.
The board is a volunteer board that works at the policy level, reviewing and approving a strategic plan, an annual operating budget, annual marketing plan, and any proposed changes to bylaws, personnel guidelines, etc. We discuss issues impacting the visitor industry and at times provide input to local and/or state government. The board is responsible for the hiring, evaluation, and termination of the President/CEO. All remaining staff members report to the President/CEO.
