Travel Lane County's Juanita Metzler Recognized
Eugene, OR - Juanita Metzler, CMP, CMGP, SEPC, has been named a recipient of a Smart Meetings 2023 Smart Women in Meetings Award. Ms. Metzler, Travel Lane County's Senior Director, Conventions, has worked at Travel Lane County for 15 years and, together with her conventions team, works hard to bring meetings and conventions to the Eugene, Cascades & Coast region. All of the 2023 Smart Meetings award recipients may be viewed in the Smart Meetings March issue (pages 47-61).
Securing a convention is a lengthy and highly competitive process. Our area hotels, restaurants and attractions deliver excellent experiences for convention attendees and this results in return bookings. In FY22 Travel Lane County confirmed 33 events representing 11,000 room nights, an important contribution to the area’s convention business. At mid-year of FY23, the conventions team reported 13 confirmed events and nearly 4,500 room nights.
Juanita has achieved her Certified Meeting Professional (CPM) certification through the Events Industry Council and is a Certified Government Meeting Professional (CGMP) through the Society of Government Meeting Professionals. In January 2023, she attained her Sustainable Events Professional Certification through the Events Industry Council. Upon completion, Juanita noted, "I am a continual learner. I just completed the EIC Sustainable Events Professional and I am so excited to be able to share this with others. If we can learn to make small daily changes in our lives and to enjoy them, then our habits become positive influences."
