Oregon Sports Summit A Success

The Eugene, Cascades & Coast Sports Commission was proud to host the annual Oregon Sports Summit in person on April 7, 2022, at the Valley River Inn in Eugene.

The event featured engaging content and networking opportunities for the attendees representing our diverse sports community from around the state of Oregon. Session content focused on relevant and important issues facing sports planners today and provided them with an educational opportunity to expand their knowledge base. This year we welcomed a new educational track hosted by Sport Oregon, designed for Destination Management Organizations (DMOs).

Some of the top sessions included Risk Management for Event Safety, Utilizing Your Sports Commission and Strategies to Maximize Participant Experience. During lunch, an inspiring keynote presentation presented by David Vobora, Eugene native and former NFL player, focused on providing access and inclusion to individuals living with physical or traumatic impairments by empowering them through exercise and community.

Of the 92 attendees who participated in the event, the vast majority were from the state of Oregon. The type of attendees varied and included sports event planners, DMO/Sports Commissions, hoteliers, athletic directors, local sports team or league members, venue representatives, and more. Attendees were diverse in the types of organizations and businesses they represented, but all came together with the common interest of the importance and impact of sport in our state.

Amidst the challenges that 2020 and 2021 has brought all sports event planners, it was wonderful to bring together this group of attendees and provide this important educational opportunity to them as the industry gears up for an exciting summer season of events.
