Hayward Field

Prefontaine Classic by Hassan MeadOne of the most famous track and field-only facilities in the world, Historic Hayward Field is hallowed ground for track and field athletes and fans. Built in 1919 on the UO campus, this historic venue has hosted nine NCAA Championships, seven national championships, five Olympic trials, 32 Prefontaine Classics and numerous other prestigious track and field events. The most recent nationally celebrated event was the 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials - Track and Field. Those fortunate enough to participate in it, or to cheer on the athletes, can testify why Eugene is known as TrackTown USA.

Running is just part of Eugene - Springfield, and Hayward Field is a legacy piece that inspires our residents. When the Oregon Track Club sponsors its All-Comers meets each July, runners of all ages and abilities can even compete here. This is truly something special.

Visitors entering Hayward Field first pass through Powell Plaza, built in 2005 to showcase the field's heritage. The nearby Bowerman Building also holds track memorabilia.

For large events, off site parking with shuttles, bicycle valets and bike corrals are the most convenient transportation. Just a few blocks from the stadium is a charming area known as the Hayward Historic District. In a neighborhood setting, this is a great place to enjoy a craft beer or an ice cream cone!
