The Bon Homme Richard Shipmates Association is an association of shipmates who served on board the aircraft carrier USS Bon Homme Richard CV / CVA 31. Our purpose through this Association is to preserve our ships place in naval history and afford opportunities of communication, recreation and perpetuate the camaraderie that developed among the men who served on this proud ship.

  • Attended the prior year's reunion to assist in announcing that the next annual reunion would be held in the Eugene, Cascades & Coast region of Oregon and provided a staffed visitor  information table 
  • Created an event microsite to help promote the event, the region, and local attractions
  • Posted digital signage at the airport to welcome arriving attendees
  • Requested and received a proclamation from the governor of Oregon for the conference
  • Provided a staffed visitor information table during the opening banquet
  • Arranged for a color guard to present the colors at the opening banquet
  • Arranged for the veteran mayor of the city of Springfield to deliver the opening remarks
  • Coordinated with the Springfield Police Department to have their K-9 Unit provide a demonstration for attendees during the opening banquet
  • Arranged for a popular local jazz band to be the featured entertainment at the opening banquet
  • Produced a custom itinerary to tour the city of Florence on the Oregon coast that included riding dune buggies in the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area, visiting Sea Lion Caves, touring the Heceta Head Lighthouse, and having lunch in the Old Town district
  • Designed and delivered welcome signs to all businesses in the city of Coburg that would be involved in the attendee tour prior to the day of the tour
  • Produced a custom itinerary to tour the city of Coburg that included antique shopping, visiting the Oregon Air & Space Museum, touring a local luxury motorcoach manufacturer, and lunch
  • Arranged for a military chaplain to give rights at a memorial service in Cottage Grove
  • Researched and provided a list of all local VFW posts to attendees
  • Provided sample packets of Oregon-grown hazelnuts and hazelnut recipes to attendees
  • Gifted attendees a Travel Lane County lapel pin
  • Sourced commemorative event t-shirts through local provider
  • Provided free Oregon highway maps to attendees
